CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE! RETURNS WITH LIVE COMPETITION

Student spellers, mathematicians and geography experts showed their stuff on Monday, February 12 as Westminster Public School’s Celebrating Excellence! Program returned to action with live competitions.

Entry for Independent Virtual competitions remains open through March 15.

About 130 students participated in the event with parents in attendance to celebrate the student’s success.  The competition in the three categories began at the school level with students then moving along to district level competition. 

“It was a huge success,” said Jennifer Rizzo Hamilton, PEDAL Coordinator of the Gifted and Talented Department. “It was only possible because of the collaborative efforts of so many.”

The winners from the evening are listed below. 

 

District Spelling Bee Elementary Winners 

  • 1st Place - Elijah Winter Moon Pumroy - Metropolitan Arts Academy

  • 2nd Place - Colin Rafferty - Harris Park Elementary 

 

District Spelling Bee Middle School Winners

  • 1st Place - Abayah Castillo - Metropolitan Arts Academy

  • 2nd Place - Alex Ramirez Robles - John E. Flynn A Marzano Academy 

  • 3rd Place - Brayden Romero - Tennyson Knolls Preparatory School 

 

MATHCOUNTS Middle School Competition Winners

  • 1st Place - Luis Alvarado Andrade, Luis Guevara Hernandez, Eimy Delgado Carranza, Malakye Dashyan - Orchard Park Academy 

  • 2nd Place Tie - Sebastian Rubio, Caitlin Candelaria, Fernanda Galvan, Getsemani Palma Delgadillo - Orchard Park Academy 

  • 2nd Place Tie - Sayan Tripathi, Brecken Weber, Maddie Than, Tommy Kirchberg - Colorado STEM Academy 

  • Regional Chapter Competition Winner - Tommy Kirchberg - Colorado STEM Academy 

 

Geography Bee Competition Winners 

  • 1st Place - Abayah Castillo, Grace Fritz, Diamanti Martinez, Kamdyn Ann Morelock, Isis Quezada - Metropolitan Arts Academy 

  • 2nd Place - Angel Rodriguez Hernandez, Naidelynn Garcia, Allison Loya Valerio, Sara Elias Navejas - Westminster Academy of International Studies

  • 3rd Place - Alan Aguirre, Airaly Urbina Santizo, Marietta Ariza Cruz, Leandro Garcia - Westminster Academy for International Studies.

 

The winners will be honored and entered into a prize drawing as part of the CE! Live scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Westminster High School.  The CE! Live event will also showcase winners in the K-8 Science Fair, the WPS District Art Show and the  K-5 Lego League.  

 

Over the years, one of the most popular events is the District Spelling Bee, which returned this year with competitions at the Elementary and Middle School Levels.  Students from the Metropolitan Arts Academy won both contests.
